| Hey guys,
So, to all of our readers who are high school seniors—congratulations on making it to the end of a long journey.
We will have coverage of this year’s graduation in next week’s print edition, and on social, so make sure to watch for that.
On the front page this week, Dinah Cotton caught up with the assistant principal of Los Gatos High School, Kristina Grasty, to learn about this year’s Grad Night—a "dry" celebration meant to keep the youth safe, and provide a memorable send-off for students.
"Parents were messaging us stating that back when they were graduating kids were getting into accidents on grad night because they were drinking and driving. That is when Carol Musser started this, to keep the kids safe and sober...There are three nights that are most dangerous for high school kids: New Years, Fourth of July and grad night."
Also on the education front, Saratoga security official Archie Ljepava was honored with a Classified School Employees of the Year Award, alongside admin worker Melody Jones, of Campbell Union High School District.

| San Jose Mayor (and recent attendee at the Good Samaritan Hospital groundbreaking) conceded his effort to follow in Sam Liccardo’s footsteps and springboard from a San Jose mayoral job into higher office. At first he was in fourth place around 10%, but dropped to 4% (and was passed by Chad Bianco and Katie Porter).
BTW, on Wednesday, Liccardo—who’s now Los Gatos’ voice in the House of Representatives—commented on the 215-208 vote there forcing President Trump to withdraw US forces from Iran (or win Congressional approval to proceed with the war).
"Common sense prevailed today. Rising costs and mounting public outrage forced even members of Trump’s own party to reject his war. The Senate must vote on this War Powers Resolution with haste so we don’t lose this temporary episode of sanity," he said in a press release.

| | Continued:
Earlier this week, the Council on American-Islamic Relations took on the Town for what it called "chilling overreach" for the Planning Commission’s imposition of conditions it says are illegal.
Today, the Farley Road Neighborhood Coalition responded, saying CAIR is distorting the facts.
"WVMA was originally granted approval for its stated use of five daily prayer services, along with broad allowances for community center activities extending up to 20 hours per day. The current discussion is not about restricting religious worship; it is about ensuring that an expanded intensity of use remains compatible with the surrounding residential neighborhood and consistent with the conditions that formed the basis of the original approval."
Melisa Yuriar spoke with an early player in the gig-work industry for this week’s edition. Matt O’Connor, an early employee at Instacart, told her he’s trying to revolutionize the laundry business now—with a new company called NoScrubs—by incorporating AI and working with a variety of washing facilities (they’re calling "scrubbers") to improve convenience for people.
She also spoke with an entrepreneur in Campbell for his take on the upstart service. I already made my joke about TLC’s song on our Facebook page, so I will refrain from doing so here.
Speaking of "There’s an app for that", news intern Anika Kapasi reported on the launch of a new program the Town of Los Gatos just rolled-out to provide residents with the chance to report non-emergency problems digitally.
Laura Ness returned with the final installment in her three-part series on local vineyards.
On a recent visit to the vineyard, Goodling showed off the various flora that filled the vinerows. It was quite a sight to behold: the red clover, purple vetch and yellow mustard—each of which has a different function (adding organic matter to the soil, increasing or fixing nitrogen, or reducing erosion—a significant issue on steep hillside vineyards like at House Family). |

| Reeva Sethi arrives in our pages with a Guest View piece so impressive that I couldn’t help but greenlight the pitch as soon as it landed in my inbox.
As a poor reporter for whom the dream of homeownership is but a remote possibility, it doesn’t exactly speak to the real-world issues in my life.
However, I can only imagine that it does touch on a legitimate concern for many of the homebuyers (and sellers) in our fine municipalities: whether to keep unique characteristics of aging homes, or renovate a home into something that fits better with current (and often more bland) housing market tastes.
"The architectural character of a town is not lost all at once. It disappears one sensible renovation at a time. A backsplash here. A built-in cabinet there. Original parquet replaced because it feels dated. Stained glass removed because it feels too specific.
Each decision may seem reasonable on its own. Taken together, they determine what future generations inherit."

Faizi Samadani noted that Netflix has a brand new live program—a long-running radio show that’s expanded far beyond its broadcast roots. He also reported on the exit of company co-founder Reed Hastings.
And why not check out what’s been going on on the streets of Los Gatos—with this week’s Police Blotter?
